The iPhone 11, the spiritual successor to Apple’s popular iPhone XR, is finally official. Not a lot has changed (including the display), but it does offer dual cameras.

The iPhone 11 starts with a price of USD 699, and will ship to more than 30 countries starting September 20. It comes in Black, Green, Yellow, Purple, (Product) Red, and White.

iPhone 11

The iPhone 11 features dual rear cameras with a 12MP f/1.8 wide and 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide sensors. It has Apple’s 2x optical zoom, OIS, and True Tone flash. Selfies are handled by a TrueDepth 12MP front shooter with an f/2.2 aperture.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, whichever way you look at it), the iPhone 11 comes with a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD display with True Tone, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 support. It has a resolution of 1792 x 828, but is plenty sharp with 326 ppi.

Under the hood is Apple’s latest A13 Bionic chipset equipped with a 3rd generation Neural Engine. The processor was built on a 7nm process with 2 high performance cores and 4 power efficient cores.

There’s also a new GPU with 4-cores, said to be 20% faster and 40% more power efficient than the previous generation. It also has the 3rd generation Neural Engine with 8 cores.

iPhone 11

As for the rest of the specs, the iPhone 11 also features IP68 dust and water resistance (up to 4m up to 30 minutes), wireless charging, and fast charging.

Apple’s Deep Fusion will also come to the iPhone 11 as a software update. It also has a new Night Mode.

iPhone 11

Battery life is rated to last up to 1 hour longer than the iPhone XR. Not sure if that’s good or bad, but just take it as it is. Fast charging can top up top up the phone up to 50% capacity in just 30 minutes.

The iPhone 11 starts is priced USD 699 (roughly PHP 36,500) for the 64GB. It will probably become available in the Philippines around mid to late November 2019.

Apple drops prices of iPhone XR, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus in the Philippines

$
0
0

In the wake of the newly launched iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max, Apple is cutting the prices of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and the XR in the Philippines.

These iOS devices were the flagships of yesteryears. And while they’re still mostly expensive, this gives those who wants to get into the Apple ecosystem a chance of snagging one of these iPhones.

Also Read: iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max with triple cameras now official

So how much are they now? Check out the new prices of Apple’s older devices:

  • Apple iPhone 8 64GB – PHP 30,990
  • Apple iPhone 8 128GB – PHP 33,990
  • Apple iPhone 8 Plus 64GB – PHP 36,990
  • Apple iPhone 8 Plus 128GB – PHP 39,990
  • Apple iPhone XR 64GB – PHP 40,990
  • Apple iPhone XR 128GB – PHP 43,990

As for the iPhone XS and XS Max, these are no longer available on Apple’s website and replaced with the iPhone 11 Pro series and the iPhone 11.

Which one should you get?

For those who really want an iPhone (and don’t have the patience to wait for the new ones to come out) the best device on the list is the iPhone XR.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are still great devices (I still use mine), but they’re already two years old with a dated design. The XR, while not perfect, is relatively new and comes with a 12MP camera that is said to be leagues away from the previous generation. And it also rocks Apple’s 7nm A12 Bionic chipset which is still pretty powerful.

Also Read: iPhone 11 with dual cameras now official

Now, the only thing going against the XR is the display, which is technically in HD with a 1792 x 828 resolution and a pixel density of 326 ppi. But it has True Tone and a wide color gamut, and has been highly regarded as one of the best IPS panels in its segment.

In the end, though, it might be better to just wait for the Philippine prices of the new iPhones. This way, you can make a better decision on what to get.

OPPO A9 2020 quick hands-on review

Today, we’re taking a quick look at OPPO’s latest smartphone, the OPPO A9 2020. The handset is being marketed as a midrange phone with features that aim above its price point.

The OPPO A9 2020 is now available for blind pre-orders until September 19. Currently, the official price has not yet been revealed. There’s nothing to worry about though as OPPO assured us that it will be friendly.

Now, on with the initial review. Right off the bat, the first thing I noticed with the A9 2020 is the design. The handset features OPPO’s recent design language found on their flagships such as the OPPO Reno series.

OPPO A9 2020 Hands-on Review

The phone has that sleek vibe going for it. The back panel is made of smooth plastic that mimics glass with a gradient that shifts between dark and light colors. It looks good and makes you wonder why they’re debuting it on the midrange segment. The frame is also made of a plastic material but with a matte finish that give it a premium look and feel.

In the hand, the OPPO A9 2020 is a solidly built smartphone. It feels substantial and weighty, which further contributes to the prevailing theme of a midrange phone with features that belong in a higher segment.

OPPO A9 2020 Hands-on Review

Up front, the phone has a 6.5-inch HD IPS display. Despite having only a 1600 x 720 resolution, it looks good. It also has a 20:9 aspect ratio and dual stereo speakers that give it a more immersive cinematic experience.

Inside, the OPPO A9 2020 is powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. Initial benchmarks rate the phone a score of 134,457 on AnTuTu. On Geekbench, it got 313 on the single core test, and 1,288 on the multi-core.

OPPO A9 2020 Hands-on Review

The handset comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery. With just that number, you know you’ll get more usage out of this than most devices. It also has reverse charging, allowing it to top-up other devices through an OTG cable.

OPPO A9 2020 Hands-on Review

As for the cameras, you have four at the back with a 48MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and two 2MP sensors for “artistic portrait effects.” Three of the sensors are at the middle on a vertical layout, while the other one sits beneath the flash. The main camera has a large 1/2.25″ sized sensor with 0.8um pixel size. The front camera uses a 16MP sensor with an f/2.0 lens.

Here are some test photos. The images have been resized on Adobe Photoshop with quality set at 60.

That’s it for today’s initial review of the OPPO A9 2020. Be sure to stay tuned and catch our full review of the OPPO A9 2020 which will come out in the coming days.

For those already interested, the OPPO A9 2020 is already available for blind pre-orders. It will come with a free XSound Bluetooth Headset valued at PHP 2,099. All you need is to shell out PHP 1,000 deposit at an OPPO store or kiosk near you.

OPPO A9 2020 specs:

  • 6.5-inch HD IPS Display (1600 x 720, 270 ppi), 20:9 Aspect Ratio

Vivo finally unveiled its latest flagship, the Vivo NEX 3. The handset features 5G connectivity, top of the line internals, and a new display.

Vivo’s latest offering brings a lot of features of what many will deem a future-forward smartphone.

Starting with the front, the NEX 3 comes with a 6.89-inch full HD Super AMOLED Waterfall display. Vivo NEX 3
