Huawei Mate 30 Pro with Kirin 990, 40MP Cinema Camera now official

$

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is finally official. This is by far the best Android smartphone in the market today.

But before we talk about the flagship, let’s get one thing out of the way first. The Mate 30 Pro does not come with Google apps. That means no Google Play Store, no Gmail, no Google Maps, etc. But it does run on Android 10 underneath EMUI 10. For the moment, the flagship will rely on their own App Gallery for apps.

Okay then. Back to the Mate 30 Pro. Let’s start with its most impressive feature set, the cameras. The handset boasts four rear shooters housed on a round module.

These are comprised of a 40MP f/1.6 Super Sensing main camera, another 40MP f/1.8 ultra-wide called Cine Camera, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto with a focal length of 80mm for 3x optical and 5x optical hybrid zoom, and a 3D ToF sensor for proper rendering of bokeh on photos and videos.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The two 40MP cameras have large sensors with the main one sized at 1/1.7″ and the Cinema camera at 1/1.54″ with 3:2 aspect ratio.

The Mate 30 Pro has also improved its video recording capabilities. It now supports 4K60fps with an amazing ultra slo-mo of 7,680fps at 720p. It also has up to ISO 52,000 for low light shooting.

Also Read: Huawei Nova 5T now available on Smart Signature

The bar notch houses a 32MP selfie shooter along with a new 3D depth sensor which help with portrait mode, face unlock and hand gestures. The new sensors, along with the Da Vinci NPU and AI. can track whether you’re using the device in portrait or landscape and adjusts the UI accordingly.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The Mate 30 Pro is powered by the latest Kirin 990 processor. Like most modern flagship processors, this is built using a 7nm+ EUV process. It is coupled with a Mali-G76 MP16 GPU with GPU Turbo, 8GB RAM, and up to 256GB of storage, expandable via Huawei’s NM card.

At the front, the Mate 30 Pro features a 6.53-inch OLED Horizon Display which curves all the way to the sides, almost wrapping it. And since the display wraps around the side of the handset, virtual buttons instead of physical ones are assigned for the volume rockers and even the camera shutter key.

Also Read: Huawei Nova 5T available at 0% interest through credit cards or Home Credit

And lastly, there’s the 4,500mAh battery. It supports wired 40W fast charging and wireless 27W fast charging.

Again, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro runs on EMUI 10 based on Android 10. Access to Google Play services are still up in the air. Hopefully, they resolve this one soon.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is officially priced at EUR 1,099 (roughly PHP 63,500) for the 8GB/256GB model. The 5G variant, on the other hand, will retail for EUR 1,199 (around PHP 69,300).

Local pricing and availability are yet to be announced.

  • 6.53-inch Horizon OLED Display (2400 x 1176, 409 ppi), HDR 10, DCI-P3, Always-on Display
  • 2.86GHz Octa-core Kirin 990 Processor

Vivo has recently unveiled the Vivo V17 Pro. The midrange smartphone could usher in the era of dual pop-up cameras.
